Where and when
IFIP IDMAN 2013, the 3rd IFIP WG 11.6 Working Conference on Policies & Research in Identity Management, will be hosted by the Information Security Group at Royal Holloway, University of London, UK, on the 8th and 9th of April 2013.
History
IFIP IDMAN 2013 is the third in a series of conferences focusing on the theory, technology and applications of identity management. The two previous conferences (IFIP IDMAN 2007 and IFIP IDMAN 2010) were held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and Oslo, Norway, respectively.
Scope
The world of the 21st century is, more than ever, global and impersonal. Criminal and terrorist threats, both physical and on the internet, increase by the day. The demand for better methods of identification is growing, not only in companies and organisations but also in the world at large.
Identity management is put under pressure, due to the growing number of frauds who want to hide their true identity. Identity management challenges the information security research community to focus on interdisciplinary and holistic approaches while retaining the benefits of previous research efforts.
As part of this tendency, surveillance and monitoring are more prominently present in society, both in the public and private domain. The original intention being to contribute to security and safety, surveillance and monitoring might, in some cases, have unintended or even contradictory effects. Besides, the omnipresence of surveillance and monitoring systems might be at daggers drawn with public and democratic liberties.
Future of Identity Workshop
IDMAN 2013 will be collocated with a workshop organised by the EPSRC-funded Future of Identity Network of Excellence. This workshop will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday 9th April, immediately after the end of IDMAN 2013. All workshop presentations will take place in room MX001, the Moore Building Annexe Lecture Theatre, in the building marked 12 on the campus plan.
The workshop is free, and all are welcome to attend. However, in order to arrange for refreshments, please let us know if you intend to attend by sending a brief email to webmaster@idman2013.com
